How do you stop the illegal use of cell phones in prisons?

There is a growing need for the detection of very small magnetic metal including cell phones worldwide. One solution to this evolving problem is the CEIA Magneto Static Detector (MSD). The MSD is specifically designed to detect all cell phones and other ferromagnetic contraband concealed on the person or in body cavities (including key fob cell phones, smart phones, radio transceivers, etc.). Applications for this technology include: corrections, prohibited items in medical procedures, high sensitivity SCIF protection and detecting items in loss prevention.

The MSD is a one-piece, portable and full-height ferromagnetic detector that combines high reliability and ergonomics with advanced detection and operator signaling features. The one-piece design allows the unit to be easily transported and operational in a very short time, so a single unit can be used throughout multiple areas in a facility. The bright, multi-color status indicator offers five individual light-up zones to assist in pinpointing the location of contraband on the body. The MSD also offers covert operation through the use of a Bluetooth headset that signals for warnings and alarms in a fixed or proportional pitch.

Recently, the CEIA MSD was selected for use in the Washington State DOC Headquarters. The equipment will be used in the screening of prison visitors and inmates to prevent the illegal transportation of cell phones, which can be used to help inmates commit new crimes both inside and outside the facility. The procurement of the units was through an open market solicitation won by US Testing Equipment, an authorized partner of CEIA.
